About Philip

Prior to working as a mediator, Philip had a varied and successful career within the public and private sectors. In the public sector he audited and investigated corporate financial accounts, often then negotiating financial settlements to bring about the resolution of financial conflicts. He brought insight and pragmatism to these roles with negotiation and mediation being a key part of his success.

In the private sector Philip is a construction specialist, having been the commercial director of a property development company for 15 years. He has an informal and inclusive leadership style, equally at ease with the factory floor and the boardroom. He understands finance and commerce and their statutory frameworks.

Philip enjoys detail and technical complexity. He is a flexible thinker and problem solver; with analysing and interpreting information being particular strengths. He has negotiated and managed contracts and contract disputes, often acting as an intermediary between main contractors, contractors and subcontractors.

Philip’s volunteer work includes consulting to a mental health charity, bringing an awareness and empathy to those facing challenging circumstances. He is a member of the Bath & Wells Diocese Peacebuilding Network, using his conflict resolution skills to parishes who are in need. Time permitting, Philip and his wife act as parent and child foster carers. As well as looking after and supporting the parent and child, this role often includes acting as an advocate for the parent with support services, providing a communication bridge for both parents and social services.

Philip brings all of this understanding and skill to his mediations where his calm and professional style promote meaningful engagement with the process.
